First Holy Communion, or as the people in Sikka usually say Sambut Baru is a tradition in the Catholic Church which marks a child or adult's first reception of the Sacrament of the Eucharist by someone who has been baptized.
Generally, children will receive the First Holy Communion or Sambut Baru when they are in the 5th grade of elementary school or at the age of 10 or 11 years. Each child will receive spiritual formation in their schools by the religion teacher and then attend First Holy Communion in the Church. First Holy Communion is usually help by the Church in June of September.
When attending the Holy First Communion at the Church, the children will wear while clothes and if girls will make up like angels with beautiful crowns and dresses. The white color symbolizes Holiness, Glory, Perfection, Purity, Immortality and Victory.
Olivia Kaila Asa, or Kaila, is one of the children who received First Holy Communion. This is a portrait of Kaila with her parents, Bapa Nong and Mama Iche when she receives her First Holy Communion at the Church. Bapa Nong's profession is a farmer an Mama Iche is a teacher. Kaila is their first child to receive Sambut Baru.
