Cacao grown on the Island of Flores is found in many districts, such as, Manggarai, Bajawa, Ende, Sikka and East Flores.  The farms are located at altitudes ranging from 50 -700 masl.  The most common variety of cacao is Forastero. Farmers have implemented P3S technology, pruning, frequent harvesting and sanitation.  Rorak is an important method for protecting the cacao trees from prolonged draught. Rorak consists of pits or trenches placed adjacent to tree crops that have been filled with dry leaves, livestock dung, and coconut fiber as a compost.  During the rainy season water then is collected in rorak to supplement soil moisture and percolate nutrients.

Mio and her team work closely with the farmers to provide the best information of good farming practices. Sikka farmers and their cooperatives have knowledge and experience in farm economics and crop financing.  The Kiku Liluk Foundation provides a safety net in times of need.
